A short belt is the right length if the buckles on both sides are well above the elbow joint and abdominal vein after re-belting.

In addition, the upper edges of the buckles on the girth straps should be one or two holes away from the lower edge of the saddle flap.

Rule of thumb for measuring:
Saddle with your own saddle and the right saddle pad. Then measure loosely from the lower edge of one saddle flap under the belly to the lower edge of the other saddle flap, subtract 30 cm from this and round up to the next standard length.
